How It Works
Running Momma uses Apple WorkoutKit to create structured workouts that sync directly to the native Workout app on your Apple Watch. No companion app needed — your workouts appear right where you expect them.
Choose your workout
Open your training plan and tap the watch icon on any workout. Select Apple Watch from the menu.
Allow Health access
The first time you export, Running Momma asks for Health access. This is required for WorkoutKit to schedule workouts on your Apple Watch.
Workout syncs automatically
The structured workout is sent to your Apple Watch in the background. Open the Workout app on your watch to see it.
Run with guidance
Start the workout on your watch. You get pace targets, interval timers, warmup/cooldown phases, and fueling alerts — all on your wrist.
What Gets Synced
Pace targets
Min/max pace zones based on your VDOT training paces for each workout segment.
Interval structure
Reps, work distance/time, and recovery periods for interval and fartlek workouts.
Warmup & cooldown
Automatic warmup and cooldown phases included in every structured workout.
Fueling reminders
Gel and nutrition alerts appear as named steps on your watch so you never miss a fuel window.
Export an Entire Week
Go to Settings → Export to Watch to send a full week of workouts at once. Select Apple Watch as your export target and pick the workouts you want.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which Apple Watch models are supported?
Any Apple Watch running watchOS 10 or later — that includes Series 4 and newer. The iPhone must be running iOS 17+.
I have a Garmin watch. Can I still use this?
Absolutely. Running Momma supports both Apple Watch (via WorkoutKit) and Garmin/COROS (via .fit file export). You choose your export target each time.
How do fueling reminders work on Apple Watch?
Fueling alerts are embedded as named workout steps (like "GEL #1"). When you reach that point in your workout, the watch shows the reminder on screen. Enable or disable this in Settings → Include fueling alerts in exports.
What if I don't have an Apple Watch?
No problem. You can still use Running Momma's Race Mode for phone-based fueling alerts, or export .fit files for Garmin and COROS watches.
Does this send my health data to Running Momma?
No. Running Momma only writes workout plans to HealthKit — it doesn't read any of your health data. The Health permission is required by Apple to schedule workouts on your watch.
